PAS has denied that the party used a race-based approach in its movement and that it is an Islamic party instead. President Abdul Hadi Awang said it fulfils the obligations demanded by the religion.

He dismissed the allegation made by PH and Amanah after Amanah communication director Khalid Samad said Pas had long used a racial approach and had effectively persuaded the people. Nevertheless Hadi insisted PAS is not like PH or Amanah and performs ‘charity’.

Not Racist But ‘Fitnah’?

Nevertheless, Hadi’s statement raises many questions. First, the flip-flop of the party members online after posting viral videos and statements that are later denied. This is not the Islamic way of doing politics. PAS and its leaders, and members attack Anwar Ibrahim personally online and in forums, which is also against Islamic ethics. Someone has to explain how these relate to an ‘Islamic’ approach. Not racist…but…
