After an extensive search, officials have determined the fate of the missing submersible that was carrying five people to explore the wreckage of the Titanic in the Atlantic Ocean. The sub imploded in the depths of the sea, just hours after descending.
The Titanic Expedition
Pieces of the vessel were discovered in a debris field on the ocean floor, close to the bow of the Titanic. An acoustic anomaly consistent with an implosion was detected by the U.S. Navy shortly after the sub lost contact.
Simulation
Experts explain that underwater implosions occur rapidly and involve objects collapsing inward under immense pressure. The sudden loss of communication and tracking remains a puzzling aspect of the incident. Video below shows examples of an implosion.
