During an extensive media briefing today on the subject of the non-Malay population, Dr. Mahathir Mohamad made assertions that they are seeking to “change Malaysia’s name and ownership.”
Dr Mahathir claims Non-Malays wanting to change Malaysia’s name
The former prime minister reiterated claims of external attempts to transform the country into a multicultural nation, disregarding the Malays as its founders and nation builders. Mahathir criticized the audacity of these individuals who, despite being granted citizenship, demand a change in the country’s name to make it a multiracial entity.
He delved into Malaysia’s historical context, highlighting the period of the Malayan Union under British colonial rule and the post-independence era, including Lee Kuan Yew’s advocacy for the concept of ‘Malaysian Malaysia.’
Mahathir expressed dismay that any discussion about Malay struggles is met with accusations of racism. Notably, he is under investigation for potential legal violations related to the Malay People’s Proclamation and statements perceived as disrespectful to the royal institution.
