A former Private Secretary, associated with a Deputy Minister, faced court charges today for allegedly deceiving a man regarding a RM8 million government project tender. Datuk Nasarudin Mahamud, aged 57, pleaded not guilty before Judge Norma Ismail.
Ex-Private Secretary accused of financially deceiving man
The accused former Private Secretary is charged with tricking the man into believing he was involved in the project tender and deceitfully gaining the man’s trust to manage the project. Consequently, the man transferred RM382,000 to the accused’s account and handed over RM67,000 in cash, actions he wouldn’t have taken without being deceived.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Amirul Noor Hashimi led the prosecution, while pro bono lawyers Datuk Eddin Syazlee Shith and Syed Amirul Syed Edros represented the accused. The defense highlighted the accused’s financial difficulties, critical heart condition, and cooperation with the police. The court scheduled the next hearing for 4 August, granting RM4,000 bail with one surety.
