It isn’t that often when an Asian dish, let alone a Malaysian one, would win the best in a certain category. However, our favorite Roti Canai has made itself on the list of the best flatbread in the world. Malaysians, regardless of race, would typically eat it whenever they are at a “mamak” restaurant.
Malaysians are proud of their Roti Canai
In addition to this, Malaysians are showing their gratitude towards the Mamak and Indian people for making this dish well known. Many acknowledge that this dish has Indian/Desi origins. However, there are a number of variations of it within the Southeast Asian region.
In Singapore, the Roti Prata is their version of our Roti Canai. There are key differences towards these two dishes as one is flakier than the other. Furthermore, in Malaysia, the Prata bread is available for the masses, but it is typically sold as a frozen food rather than being prepared in a restaurant.
