Minister of Economy Rafizi Ramli suggested that the federal government’s progressive wage model may include mandatory annual salary increments.

The wage model is part of the ruling Pakatan Harapan coalition’s election pledge to raise pay and reshape Malaysia’s labour-driven economy. However, Rafizi acknowledged the potential backlash from employers who may resist raising wages.

The proposed progressive wage policy aims to address long-standing structural issues that have suppressed wages and contributed to growing wealth inequality in Malaysia.
