Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has disclosed that he was removed from the captaincy position by manager Erik ten Hag. Despite losing his first-choice status last season, Maguire retained the armband. However, United is now open to listening to offers for the 30-year-old player.
Harry Maguire demoted?
West Ham has shown interest in Harry Maguire, but their proposal for a loan deal with a potential option to buy is unlikely to appeal to United, mainly due to financial considerations. Maguire’s considerable salary increase, linked to United’s Champions League qualification, makes finding a new club more challenging.
Though he has given mixed messages to West Ham about his willingness to join, regular game time will be crucial for him to maintain his place in the England squad. Meanwhile, Ten Hag aims to raise funds by selling Maguire and other fringe players to support new signings, such as Mason Mount from Chelsea and a potential move for goalkeeper André Onana.
Additionally, Ten Hag is eyeing a striker, and Atalanta’s Rasmus Højlund has emerged as a potential target. In case of Maguire’s departure, United may also seek another center-back signing.
