The MACC has arrested a CEO of a state agency (MBI) director, and a female company director in Alor Setar, Kedah. The arrests are in connection with corruption and abuse of power in the mining sector involving more than RM13 million in bribes.

The illegal mining activities allegedly received protection from certain authorities since 2020. The female-owned company reportedly obtained approval for a rubber clone tree development project in Kedah in 2016.
The same company applied for rare earth element (REE) mining activities in the same compartment last year, but no approval was granted. The suspects have been remanded for three days for investigation.
