Unfortunately, spending nearly RM200k for a car in Malaysia is out of the reach of a significant portion of the country. Many are opting for more affordable cars like the Axia which are more or less RM40k. However, there has been a strong push in terms of introducing these new environmentally friendly cars in Malaysia.
Why are RM40,000 Axias being taxed while RM200,000 Teslas aren’t?
It appears that a netizen has somewhat a proper answer. The user states that the country is future-proofing itself by giving reliefs for these cars. Yes, currently they are still expensive, but they might be the norm of the future and may overtake Axias. These are one of the initiatives of the government in order to promote a cleaner environment.
However, there are some users who are poking fun at Teslas. A netizen claims that the Tesla looks like Voldermort. This is due to the car looking like it has no nose. It appears that some are agreeing to this sentiment. Despite this, it is a long way until electric vehicles are recognised as the norm.
