Malaysia’s unemployment rate improved by 0.1 percentage points to 3.4% in June 2023 from the prior month’s 3.5%, as revealed by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM). The number of unemployed individuals decreased to 581,700 from 584,600. Despite a moderate economic expansion projection, the labour market remained stable, driven by a consistent rise in employed individuals.

The active job-seekers, constituting 80.3% of total unemployed individuals, saw a reduction of 0.8% to 466,900. Employment increased notably in the services sector, encompassing food and beverage, wholesale and retail trade, and transportation.
