Paper straws, typically hailed as an eco-friendly substitute for plastic, may not be as green as believed. Belgian researchers discovered toxic PFAS compounds in these straws, challenging their environmental credentials. PFAS, known as “forever chemicals” due to their long-lasting nature, could potentially render paper straws less sustainable than their plastic counterparts.

Thimo Groffen, Ph.D., the study’s author and an environmental scientist at the University of Antwerp, emphasized the need to reconsider the eco-friendliness of plant-based straws like those made from paper and bamboo.
It is clear that netizens prefer having the conventional plastic straws back. Many claim that woke individuals ruin everything good in life. Furthermore, there are others who complain that these so called “eco friendly” straws are more of an annoyance as they would melt less than half-way through a drink.
