Today the Ringgit is trading at RM4.64 for a dollar but that does not make it the lowest in a year. A year ago, it was also trading at this rate. Now, the all-time high of the RM against the USD was 2.122 in September 1980. Mahathir Mohamad was not the Prime Minister yet! Mahathir was sworn in as prime minister on 16 July 1981, at the age of 56.

The lowest the Ringgit fell against the dollar is 4.695 in Oct 2022, and Ismail Sabri Yaakob was then PM. Looks like Anwar Ibrahim has indeed inherited a weak Ringgit from the flashy-dressed Sabri ya! Wait for a stronger RM then to enjoy cheaper imported goods.
