FIFA has made adjustments to the bidding criteria for the 2034 Men’s World Cup, allowing nations with fewer established football stadiums to host the tournament. The previous requirement of proposing a minimum of 14 suitable stadiums with at least seven being existing ones has been relaxed.
Saudi Arabia’s interest in hosting 2034 World Cup
The new criteria state that out of the 14 suitable stadiums, a bid must propose a minimum of four existing stadiums. FIFA’s decision contrasts with efforts in other sports to create more sustainable events and reduce the construction of underutilized stadiums. Saudi Arabia has already expressed its intention to host the 2034 tournament.
