The alliance, once united over issues like ICERD and the Rome Statute, crumbled due to political interference. Puad implied that any revived cooperation would be a mere convenience for elections. Driven by economic concerns, he advised his party to focus on national welfare and recommended Perikatan Nasional to adopt a constructive opposition stance, following Malaysia’s withdrawal from the Rome Statute amidst political confusion, as stated by Dr. Mahathir Mohamad in April 2019.
