Pay Gap Widens in Malaysia Now: Women Earn RM66.67 for Every RM100 Paid to Men

The gender pay gap in Malaysia has widened significantly, with women now receiving only RM66.67 for every RM100 paid to men, compared to RM96.21 in 2021 and RM94.07 in 2020, according to the Malaysian Gender Gap Index for 2022.

Despite higher enrollment in tertiary education, women face a stark decline in wages, with the estimated annual salary at RM42,080 for women and RM63,117 for men in 2022. The overall Malaysian Gender Gap Index for 2022 is 0.694, ranking the country 93rd among 146 nations. The report highlights the growing gender-based disparities, emphasizing the need for redressal.
