Apparently, the boycotts have made coffee lovers distraught as to which coffee house they should go to. Starbucks has been crossed off the list of many Malaysians, but now it seems that Starbaq is our new player. Netizens are poking fun towards the name of the cafe, but others find it innovative.
Starbucks or STARBAQ?
Another user states that this “Starbucks” cafe reminds them of a movie changing the names of these western brands. Apparently, the same movie called Coffee Bean “Kopi Din.” Furthermore, this reminds some of the days when McCurry had a lawsuit against McDonalds and won.
Others state that now we have a choice to either support the west, or the “walauns” in the north. This term is referred to those who are ultra supporters of either PN or PH-BN. Regardless, it is still funny to see a foreign brand’s name twisted until its localised.
