Penang’s Chief Minister, Chow Kon Yeow, has filed a defamation lawsuit against Tan Kok Ping, the honorary president of the Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce (PCCC). The legal action was prompted by Tan’s alleged defamatory remarks during a press conference regarding a terminated land agreement. 

Penang Chief Minister initiates defamation suit 

Despite the agreement’s public cancellation by the Development Corporation, Tan purportedly made deliberate defamatory comments in Mandarin, targeting Chow’s credibility as the Penang Chief Minister and PDC chairman. Chow, in a social media statement, mentioned the delivery of legal documents to Tan and revealed the civil court’s scheduled case management for January 24, following Tan’s absence of apology or retraction.
