The report highlights Najib’s 2017 visit during the US Department of Justice’s 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) investigation, detailing payments, including a nightly AS$10,000 presidential suite. The visit aimed to bolster Najib’s image pre-election, portraying Malaysia’s US investments and deflecting opposition allegations concerning 1MDB.
Experts saw it as the former Prime Minister’s PR move to refute opposition claims about his global reception amid the 1MDB scandal.
