Char Kuey Teow has been settled to be a dish that is fried with less sauce/gravy. However, some X users state that the dish is supposed to be drenched with sauce. This led to a major debate between several users with some quite literally bringing up the actual definition of the dish.

Char Kuey Teow drama continuing

In a now deleted post, a user stated something rather controversial to which they received backlash from many users. Many feel that some are hijacking the dish to be a Malay dish when it is quite literally a Hokien dish that originated from China. Others feel that this debate shouldn’t be too serious

A prominent X user then chimed in saying that the dish quite literally means that it is fried. Char means fried in Hokkien. But if someone would prefer theirs to have a little extra sauce they can request for it to be “basah.”
