New civil servant recruitment on a contract basis is a short-term measure until the Cabinet approves a non-pensionable permanent employment policy. DPM Ahmad Zahid Hamidi clarified that the new policy would be implemented in 2024, contributing to the EPF. The move aims to reduce the projected RM120 billion government pension payments by 2040.

No Pensions

The announcement followed reports of contractual hiring, emphasizing that existing permanent and pensionable civil servants would remain unaffected. On the other hand, Zahid welcomed Tanjong Karang MP Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi’s support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, strengthening the unity government. Officially, there are 6 MPs from the opposition now supporting the Madani government.
