Health Ministry Now Rebuts Claim, Only 6% of Honey Fails Standards

The Health Ministry (MOH) responds to claims that 90% of honey in Malaysia is counterfeit, affirming vigilance in monitoring honey products. Categorizing honey by bee species, regulations mandate specific standards, with less than 6% of samples found non-compliant since 2016.

Actions were taken against violators, highlighting fines up to RM20,000 or imprisonment. Only seven firms received MOH’s “Authentic Food Certification” for honey products, underscoring ongoing efforts to ensure authenticity. 

Collaboration with agencies aims to ascertain honey purity using Codex Alimentarius-endorsed methods, emphasizing commitment to food safety and regulation enforcement.
