Former Felda chairman Mohd Isa Abdul Samad successfully appealed his six-year prison sentence and RM15.45 million fine on nine corruption charges linked to a Sarawak hotel purchase. The Court of Appeal overturned the guilty verdict, ruling the trial judge misdirected himself.

Isa was accused of receiving RM3.09 million in bribes for facilitating Felda Investment Corp’s RM160 million hotel purchase. Appellate Judge Vazeer Alam Mydin Meera highlighted the prosecution’s narrative shift during the trial.
Isa expressed gratitude for the decision, hinting at a possible political return. Prosecutors have 14 days to appeal. The charges stemmed from events between July 2014 and December 2015.
