The anticipated signing of the Joint Agreement for the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) between our neighbouring countries is set to occur by year-end. Minister of Economy Rafizi Ramli disclosed that the pact would involve both prime ministers during the 11th Malaysia-Singapore Leaders’ Retreat later this year.

This agreement will outline collaborative efforts for JS-SEZ development, specifying focused sectors, locations, and incentives. Rafizi revealed that Johor is currently conducting a study on JS-SEZ, with an interim report submitted to the Ministry of Economy. The initiative aims to replicate Shenzhen’s economic success, boasting a GDP of RM1.93 trillion in 2021.
