Malaysians need to be brave enough to make changes to not continue to depend on rice as a source of carbohydrates, instead it can be replaced with other sources such as cassava or ubi kayu says the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tan Sri Johari Abdul. He says the move to make cassava as one of the sources of carbohydrates is seen as the best alternative while waiting for the local white rice supply (BPT) issue to be resolved.

UBI KAYU ala Afrika

“If rice is an issue, what is the purpose of eating rice…the purpose is to get carbohydrates. I feel there is no other alternative while we want to solve the rice issue. For example, I have discussed with some Sarawak Members of Parliament, Sarawak grows cassava which is used as a supplement (additional food), because this cassava has great nutrients compared to the sugar in rice, cassava is much lower,” he says.
