“The safety of our children online is paramount,” emphasized Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, urging parents to ensure their children under 13 years old refrain from having social media accounts. 

MCMC Highlights concerns over children on social media 

He highlighted findings from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) indicating the unsuitability of young children for such platforms. Fahmi addressed concerns about social media platforms’ lax age verification, stating, “If there are children under 13 with accounts, parents, please inform me, MCMC. We will shut down those accounts.”

These measures align with efforts to address online safety, with plans underway for discussions with social media platforms regarding child protection.
