A viral question on X asked as to why does the official Apple cables turn yellow over time. This has been a common problem since the mid 2000s, and it’s still continuing on to the 2020s. There are several users discussing their theories as to why this is happening.
Apple’s original cables suffer from discolouration
An X user joked that the cable has transferred way too much data and hence the colour changed. However, this is not the right answer for obvious reasons. Others explained that the plastic used for these cables are not withstanding long term use.
The most logical answer to this situation is that the oils and dirt from the user’s fingers have a tendency to change the colour of the cables. It seems that several users agree with this sentiment.
