Reuters and the US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur refuted claims of new sanctions on Malaysian companies for alleged terror financing. The report, circulated on social media, was deemed false. Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil confirmed no such sanctions were imposed.

“Any claims that Reuters reported that Malaysia is the first country in Southeast Asia to be listed by the United States as a state sponsor of terror are false. “Reuters did not report this,” says the news agency on X. Meanwhile, the US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur also issued a fake news alert.
