A former MP has urged that the name of the next Election Commission (SPR) chairman be submitted to the Parliamentary Special Select Committee on Human Rights, Elections, and Institutional Reforms before being presented to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
SPR Chairman should be vetted by Parliament
Ong Kian Ming emphasized the importance of this position for future electoral reforms and redelineation. He suggested several candidates, including the deputy chairman Azmi Sharom and academic Wong Chin Huat.
Ong stressed the need for a transparent process, aligning with Pakatan Harapan’s commitment to strengthening parliamentary institutions. Election watchdog Bersih criticized PH and BN for recent SPR appointments lacking transparency.
