In sweltering temperatures, over 1.5 million Muslim pilgrims gathered in Mecca on Friday, marking the official start of the annual Hajj pilgrimage. They circled the Kaaba, Islam’s holiest site, before moving to the vast Mina tent camp in the desert.

Saudi authorities expect more than 2 million pilgrims this year. Amidst the spiritual journey, the ongoing Gaza conflict cast a shadow, preventing Palestinians from attending due to the Rafah crossing closure. “We pray for all Muslims, our country, and especially the Palestinian people,” said Indian pilgrim Mohammed Rafeeq, as he joined the throng in Mina.
