KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated that the government continues to bear around RM7 billion in diesel subsidies in Peninsular Malaysia. While subsidies have not been abolished, the diesel subsidy rationalisation aims to ensure efficient management and prevent misuse.
Subsidy not abolished
The main goal is to stop subsidy wastage and redirect savings to benefit the broader population. Savings from targeted subsidies will be invested in education, health, public transportation, and other impactful sectors. The Madani Government remains committed to combating diesel smuggling and balancing these efforts with supply issues and the cost of living.
