Maid in Singapore Now JAILED After Replacing Employer’s Ring with RM17 FAKE

A 39-year-old Indonesian maid, was sentenced to two weeks in jail after pleading guilty to stealing her employer’s diamond wedding ring and replacing it with a cheap imitation. She pawned the original for S$170 (RM600) and bought a S$5 (RM17) ring on Shopee to cover her tracks.

Additionally, she stole S$250 (RM871) in red packets from her employer, which was considered during sentencing. Marlina expressed remorse and a desire to return home. Theft from employers in Singapore can result in up to seven years’ imprisonment and a fine.

Maid-related theft in Singapore accounts for a significant portion of criminal accusations against domestic workers, with theft accusations making up about 76% of all cases. It is noted that many of these accusations involve petty thefts of small amounts or items valued at less than S$100. The overall number of theft in dwelling cases decreased slightly in 2023 compared to 2022.
