Appeals Court orders Chef Wan to pay RM150,000 in damages to ex-son-in-law

PUTRAJAYA: The Court of Appeal ordered celebrity chef Datuk Redzuawan Ismail, known as Chef Wan, to pay RM150,000 in damages to his former son-in-law Gavin Edward O’Luanaigh for defamatory posts on social media.

Chef Wan must pay

The three-member panel of Justices Datuk Azizah Nawawi, Datuk Lim Chong Fong, and Datuk Wong Kian Kheong overturned a High Court decision, ruling the statements defamatory. Justice Azizah also imposed RM40,000 in costs and a perpetual injunction against further defamatory statements. Chef Wan must pay 5% annual interest from the writ’s filing date until the judgment sum is fully settled.
