KUALA LUMPUR – In a major operation codenamed ‘Ops Mega Pintas’, 73 victims of human trafficking, including 22 children and three disabled persons, were rescued across Malaysia on June 12. Some 113 suspected human traffickers were also detained in the nationwide operation.

The Royal Malaysia Police’s deputy director of the Criminal Investigation Department, Mr. Fadil Marsus, stated that the victims comprised 25 men, 26 women, and 22 children, hailing from various countries including the Philippines, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Thailand. The victims faced forced labor and exploitation, including a disabled local woman subjected to sex exploitation and two disabled Bangladeshi men exploited by a beggar syndicate.
