KOTA BHARU: A smuggler fired three shots at Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) officers during an anti-smuggling operation in Kampung Simpangan, Tumpat. The incident occurred when officers discovered 15 longboats loading petrol and diesel.

As one officer boarded a boat, the smuggler escaped, firing shots. The smugglers fled to a neighboring country, firing into the air and at the officers. While towing the seized boat back, the officers accelerated, causing the boat to sink after another shot was fired. JKDM director Wan Jamal Abdul Salam emphasized the department’s commitment to enforcing the law despite such challenges.
