Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Abidin Ismail leads the Sungai Bakap by-election with 4679 votes against Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) Joohari Ariffin’s 3515 votes. Joohari won the postal vote with 63 votes to Abidin’s 56.

The massive defeat should probably serve as a lesson to politicians from the governing aisle. The by-election, held due to the death of incumbent Nor Zamri Latiff, saw a 57.7% voter turnout by 4pm, with expectations of exceeding 65%. Voting concluded peacefully, and ballot boxes were sent to the Official Vote Counting Centre at Dewan Serbaguna Jawi.
