A total of 39,151 registered voters are casting their ballots today in the Sungai Bakap state by-election to elect a new representative. Nine polling centres will be open from 7 am to 6 pm, with vote-tallying at the Jawi Multipurpose Hall.

Despite having a large number of eligible voters, no early voting centres were opened, but 128 postal ballots were issued. The by-election is a straight fight between Pakatan Harapan’s Dr. Joohari Ariffin and Perikatan Nasional’s Abidin Ismail, following the death of incumbent Nor Zamri Latiff. This is the eighth by-election since GE15.
