After a 26-year hiatus, Subang Airport (Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport) will resume single-aisle jet operations this August. Originally opened in 1965 as Kuala Lumpur’s primary airport, it later shifted all jet operations to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang by 1998.

Subang airport will soon have jet service

The Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) has approved six airlines to fly out of Subang Airport, including Firefly, Batik Air, AirAsia, SKS Airways Sdn Bhd, and two foreign carriers. AirAsia will begin flights from Subang to Kota Kinabalu and Kuching, while Batik Air Malaysia will serve domestic destinations.

Malaysia Airlines (MAS) will continue operating from KLIA Terminal 1. Subang Airport’s regeneration plan aims to double passenger capacity to three million (eventually reaching eight million by 2030) and enhance jet operations. It will operate with a single runway, focusing on point-to-point services.
