POLITICAL observers believe the Dewan Rakyat speaker’s decision not to vacate seats of six Bersatu MPs has intensified internal squabbles within UMNO. This is epitomized by UMNO Youth chief Dr. Muhamad Akmal Saleh’s public rebuke of party information director Datuk Lokman Noor Adam.
Rift in UMNO widens
Lokman had criticized Akmal for allegedly supporting Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Perikatan Nasional (PN). Akmal, breaching party protocol, questioned Lokman’s understanding of political loyalty, asking if it is acceptable for government MPs to support the opposition without leaving their party. This incident highlights the tension between pro-PH and opposition-inclined factions in UMNO.
