It is not a surprise to many that a lot of Malaysians love to celebrate a Japanese tradition called Bon Odori. Some say that this is to welcome their ancestors’ spirits home. However, a netizen found the whole thing to be borderline haram, and that it should stop being celebrated by Muslim Malaysians.

Netizen claim that celebrating Bon Odori is haram

However, other users state that in PAS states, these celebrations are commencing as per normal. Those who celebrate the festival state that this is more on them being in tune with Japanese culture, rather than actually believing in welcoming their ancestors back home.

Others add that there are some local elements that can be considered as haram for Muslims. Some claim that these elements are slowly being phased out.
