Umno plans to sue and demand RM100 million in damages from Rembia assemblyman Muhammad Jailani Khamis for joining PAS, breaching his agreement with the party. This decision follows Jailani’s official announcement of joining PAS in June 2023. Jailani had signed a document that says he had to pay RM100 million to Umno if he leapfrogged.

Jailani had previously joined Umno in June 2021 after leaving PKR and won the Rembia seat under Barisan Nasional. Meanwhile, Umno’s Supreme Council members are also preparing for the Nenggiri by-election, with nomination day set for August 3.
