Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail defended the Malaysian government’s ban on the film Mentega Terbang, citing concerns that it contradicts Islamic beliefs by promoting apostasy, pluralism, and liberalism. The film, which was also seen as subtly propagating Christian influences, was claimed to undermine Islamic faith and could provoke public unrest.

The creators, Mohd Khairianwar Jailani and Tan Meng Kheng, face charges for offending religious sentiments, and have requested the High Court to review constitutional issues regarding their case.
