Yap Ken Vun, a 36-year-old from Tenom, Sabah, has captured headlines with his unwavering support for Malaysia’s badminton team. Over three years, he meticulously saved RM12,000 to fulfil his dream of attending the Paris Olympics and cheering for the national athletes in person. 

Malaysian fan saving RM12,000 in three years to visit Paris 

Yap, often seen in traditional Kadazan attire, proudly waves the Malaysian flag during matches. Despite challenges, including the postponement of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Yap’s commitment remained steadfast. 

His financial sacrifices paid off as he witnessed Malaysia secure two bronze medals, particularly celebrating the achievement of men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik.
