One interesting aspect of the Malay language is its ability to borrow words from other languages, like English, when a direct translation appears to not exists. However, overuse of such adaptations can cause issues, as demonstrated by a recent controversy at a local university.

In a congratulatory post for national cyclist Nurul Izzah Izzati Asri, they referred to its Sports and Exercise Science faculty as “Fakulti Sukan dan Sains Eksesais.” The non-standard term “eksesais” sparked criticism from netizens, who labelled it a lazy translation, as the word does not exist in the Malay language dictionary.
