Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad accused the current government of politicizing the fight against corruption, using it to target political opponents by demanding asset declarations from decades ago. Speaking at the Perikatan Nasional-led SG4 conference in Bangi, where he serves as chief panel adviser, Dr Mahathir criticized the requirement as an abuse of power, claiming it instills fear in people who appear wealthy. Meanwhile, MACC has granted a final one-month extension to Tun Dr Mahathir’s sons to declare their assets. MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said that Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir and Mirzan Mahathir, now have until mid-September to submit their asset declarations.
