Pope Francis, on his Asia-Pacific tour, addressed over 80,000 devotees at Jakarta’s national stadium, but it is the embrace, kiss on the forehead of the pope and the latter kissing the imam’s hand that should win the applause. The video shows the imam putting his forehead on the head of the pope while holding his hand at the end of the ceremony. The pope then kisses the imam’s hand a few times. During his visit, the pope urged for unity and peace through dialogue. He met Grand Imam Nasaruddin Umar at Istiqlal Mosque, Southeast Asia’s largest, where they signed a declaration opposing the use of religion for conflict and advocating climate action. Despite health concerns, the 87-year-old pontiff was in high spirits, delighting Indonesia’s minority Catholic population.
