The Penang Island City Council (MBPP) has become Malaysia’s first local authority to equip its enforcement officers with body cameras, aiming to boost transparency and accountability. This initiative, introduced by State Local Government chairman H’ng Mooi Lye, is designed to enhance professionalism and public trust. The cameras will provide verifiable evidence of officers’ actions and help prevent misunderstandings or conflicts. Initially, 15 body cameras are being used by traffic wardens, with an additional 50 for the clamping and towing unit. The council plans to expand this number to 115 by 2025, continuing to strengthen their enforcement practices.
