Unemployed woman fined RM2,000 for abandoning newborn baby

A 22-year-old unemployed woman, Siti Nabila, was fined RM2,000 by the Magistrate’s Court for abandoning her newborn baby boy behind a house in Kampung Sungai Bedal, Temangan. The incident occurred three weeks ago, with the baby still having his umbilical cord attached. Magistrate Amal Razin Alias sentenced her, stating that if she failed to pay the fine, she would serve four months in prison. Siti Nabila was charged under Section 317 of the Penal Code, which could result in up to seven years of imprisonment. She was unrepresented in court but managed to pay the fine.
