A X account has spotted an apparent target in what is now called an Umrah cartel. Umrah is a religious obligation for Muslims which is considered to be a smaller Haj, or pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Islam. The X account says the MyCC (Malaysian Competition Commission) was reported to be considering penalties for 81 companies involved in an Umrah cartel. These companies allegedly colluded to set prices for Umrah packages, which unfairly impacts Muslims. While making a profit from Umrah is acceptable, the problem arises when profits are excessively inflated. If these companies competed fairly, the prices offered would be lower. Will it be the next crackdown on unfair practices among some companies in Malaysia?
