A 14-year-old boy in Shandong, China, developed life-threatening rhabdomyolysis after being forced to perform 1,000 squats as punishment at a summer camp. His mother, Lu, revealed that the ordeal began when a teacher penalized him for speaking with other children during training. After completing 200 squats, the boy collapsed from extreme muscle pain, but the teacher neglected to help him, even kicking him while he writhed in agony. When his parents arrived, they noticed he couldn’t stand. Following hospitalization, he was diagnosed with rhabdomyolysis and treated for 13 days. He now suffers from weak leg muscles and kidney damage.
