On Sunday, SpaceX successfully caught its Super Heavy booster using the Mechazilla tower. Elon Musk explained how the custom-built tower, equipped with large arms, is designed to catch the massive 250-ton rocket booster. “It’s a custom-built tower with arms that are designed to catch the largest and heaviest flying object ever made and pluck it out of the air,” Musk said. The booster, descending at half the speed of sound, will slow down to “basically zero” as it comes between the arms, which will close around it. Musk admitted the probability of success “is uncertain, but it is above zero.”
